Reporting Options
Several reporting options are available to survivors of sexual assault The survivor may choose to pursue none, one, two, three or all four options. You do not have to pursue any of these options alone.
A program staff member, or volunteer can accompany you for any appointments or interviews. Contact the Sexual Assault Prevention and Survivor Services Coordinator, at 438-7948, for additional information or assistance.
- University disciplinary process: If your assailant is an Illinois State University student, you may file a complaint with Community Rights and Responsibilities, as it is a violation of the university’s Student Code of Conduct to commit an act of sexual misconduct.
- You may pursue criminal charges through the criminal court system. This process is initiated by filing a report with the police. A police report can help the police apprehend the assailant and protect you and others from future victimization.
- You may file a civil suit to sue for monetary damages.
- You may request a Civil No Contact Order from the court. A Civil No Contact Order is a court order that requires the assailant to stay away from the person he/she sexually assaulted
