Academic Issues and Success

University life presents students with academic challenges. If these challenges are handled well, they will help you develop valuable skills for future success.

Academic difficulties may occur due to the interference of personal problems such as depression, anxiety, or relationship problems. If you believe these issues may be affecting your school work, please come to the Student Counseling Center and talk to a staff member who can help you sort out your performance problems.

On the other hand, academic difficulties may occur because a person lacks specific skills, knowledge base, or just needs some problem-solving help. If you believe your difficulties lie here, you should make use of the following services provided through University College:

Developmental Mathematics

The Developmental Math unit of University College offers courses in Beginning Algebra,  Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra. Instructors are student-centered and and the atmosphere is friendly and conducive to learning.

Julia N. Visor Academic Center

Offers help with general study skills, test taking and tutorial help with many specific courses

Minority Student Academic Center

Offers coordinated academic support programs and services for undergraduate minority students.

University College

University College is there to help students at Illinois State succeed.  Through comprehensive academic support programs – tutoring, mentoring, teaching, advising – University College succeeds when students succeed.

TRiO/Student Support Services

Student Support Services at Illinois State University is a student-oriented program that provides support services to individuals who are traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education
