Pre-doctoral Externship Training

The SCS is an advanced practicum site for doctoral students in Counseling and Clinical Psychology.

The Assistant Training Director, Charles Boudreaux, Ph.D., is responsible for the administration of the practicum program. The purpose of this practicum is to develop the students' therapeutic skills and to familiarize them with a university counseling center setting. Our goal is for students to experience themselves as an integrated part of the SCS. Prospective students submit application materials and are interviewed during Spring Semester. Students are selected on the basis of previous clinical experience, recommendations of faculty from the home program, and personal interviews with the Student Counseling Services staff. Trainees are typically enrolled in a practicum class at their "home" training program, while gaining clinical experience and supervision within the SCS. The maximum number of practicum positions is determined each year based on agency needs.
