1977, Counseling Psychology, University of Texas at Austin
Assistant Director, Information Systems & Resources, Staff Psychologist

Mike came to in the Fall of 1977, with a split appointment [3/4 time with the Counseling Center and ¼ as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department].  He maintained a teaching relationship in the Psychology Department for 15 years, teaching Group Psychotherapy and the Counseling Psychology’s Master’s Practicum.  In the Counseling Center, he’s had many responsibilities including Associate Director, Clinical Services Director, and Group’s Coordinator and has been a clinical supervisor and mentor to many new doctoral staff, pre-doctoral interns, and doctoral practicum students. Throughout this same period he has maintained a clinical practice outside of the Center focused on family and relationship therapy.

Clinically, his interests include crisis intervention/assessment, group psychotherapy, family and relationship therapy, and individual interventions.  While he draws upon existential, family and psychodynamic models to conceptualize client problems, his interventions most typically follow existential/humanistic and/or cognitive-behavioral patterns.  As such, he focuses on facilitating client awareness [affect & cognition] and from this basis, works toward the development of options for change and the emergence of responsibility for implementing desired change.
