Lisa came to SCS as a master’s practicum student in 2003 and is now at SCS providing individual therapy on a part-time basis. Lisa’s approach is client-centered with a somewhat cognitive-behavioral slant. Her clinical interests include: eating disorders, body image, religious and spiritual issues, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and career issues. During her time away from SCS, Lisa stays busy with her two sons and her husband.

Charles first came to the SCS as a pre-doctoral intern in 1996. Charles is a generalist, working from a Rogerian base and drawing heavily on cognitive-behavioral, family systems, feminist, and developmental frameworks in his work with clients. Dr. Boudreaux has worked with a wide variety of client concerns, with a preference for individuals with interpersonal or family-related issues, chronic illness, and survivors of sexual abuse. Charles loves to co-lead groups and enjoys working with couples when the opportunity arises. He is also a frequent lead instructor for the Career Choice class. He has some expertise in career counseling, teaching, supervision, assessment, human resources, and information systems/computing. His research interests focus on ethics and the person of the therapist. Charles currently coordinates the externship program and assessments for the SCS. Charles is happily married to a research psychologist and is a father of a delightful second-grade boy who is enthralled with scouting, soccer, and the Titanic. He is pleased that his parents have recently moved to Bloomington.
Shenay Bridges, Ph.D

Shenay came to SCS as a pre-doctoral intern in the fall of 2007. She is interested in working with a diverse range of clients both in individual therapy and in group therapy as well. Her outreach interests include relationships, working with students of color and career development. She works from an integrative model of psychodynamic, humanistic and interpersonal therapies and enjoys both the supervision and training aspects of psychology. Her personal interests include shopping, good food, going to the gym and watching cable television. She is an alumni of Penn State, the U of I and Hampton University.

Sandy became Director of the Student Counseling Services in August 2001. Prior to coming to the University, she served as Associate Director at Georgia State University for several years, and worked in a variety of roles at Virginia Commonwealth University for more than a decade, including managing the group therapy program, clinical services, women’s services and practicum training. Her primary clinical “passion” is in the area of group psychotherapy. Additional interests include creative visioning for counseling center administration, campus-based prevention of high-risk alcohol use, diversity training, leadership development for counseling center professionals, and campus climate for GLTB students.

Kathleen joined Illinois State University’s counseling center in the fall of 2005. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Human Development Counseling from Bradley University in 1998 and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Since graduating from Bradley, she has worked in various social service agencies in the community. She has gained experience in domestic or dating violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse, depression and anxiety, and motivational interviewing. She currently works part-time in the counseling center providing direct service to clients.

Allyson has been part of the SCS family since September 2000. Prior to coming to ISU, she was a staff psychologist and Director of the Women’s Resource Center at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Allyson enjoys the wide range of activities at SCS and has served in several capacities including Outreach/CHOICES coordinator. Currently, she is the Associate Director for Programs and coordinator of the center’s marketing and program evaluation efforts. Clinically, Allyson identifies as an integrationist, using psychodynamic theory (mainly self psychology) to conceptualize but using a full range of strategies including cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal, and affective to effect change. She is fascinated by the therapy process and loves to read, dialogue, and ponder what makes therapy work. Her interest areas include trauma (particularly interpersonal trauma), problematic relationship problems, Axis II issues and grief and loss. Allyson is also a strong believer in the effectiveness of group therapy and enjoys co-leading with interns and sharing her excitement about group therapy with them. Allyson enjoys sharing her love and passion for therapy with interns a supervisory and has consistently been part of the Training Committee. In addition, Allyson is very interested in outreach and prevention, particularly in integrating positive psychology into our outreach and psychoeducational activities. Outside of work, Allyson is devoted to her family and managing their multiple schedules.

Kim joined the SCS staff in 1989. Kim has a strong interest in training and supervision serves as Training Director for the agency. She enjoys learning about therapy and the process of change. As a therapist she draws on psychodynamic, developmental, cognitive-behavioral and humanistic theories in her work. In addition to her clinical and supervision interests, Kim has experience in both research and programming efforts in the agency. Over the years she has worked on projects such as the Guerrilla Theatre, the Career Café series, and research on training practices involving empirically supported treatments. Kim was selected Counseling Center Psychologist of the Year by APA’s Division 17 in 2004. Away from work Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and their shepherd mix Abbey, swimming, and reading about history, science and nature, psychology, and Ruth Rendell mystery novels.

Training Director since 1992, Paul came to University in 1978. He has prior administrative experience overseeing the preventive and developmental areas of the counseling center. Paul has been active locally as former president of our local mental health center board, nationally by serving on the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies board, and internationally as a consultant to the University of Botswana in establishing counseling services at that university. Paul enjoys working with interns in helping them grow and develop in their professional identity, loves running groups, and revels in all aspects of university counseling center work. As a clinician, Paul integrates existential, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic perspectives in his work with clients. Sailing and good food are among Paul’s special interests, along with jogging to offset his enjoyment of food.

Trina is a recent addition to the Illinois Sate University’s Student Counseling Center in the fall of 2007. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Human Development Counseling from Bradley University in 2003, and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Her clinical interests include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR, domestic violence, sexual assault, and the link between animal abuse and human violence. Certifications held by Trina include: Nationally Certified Counselor, Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma and Loss Specialist, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Certification and Family and Community Development Specialist Certification. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and being involved in animal rescue work.

Andy joined the counseling center staff in February of 2003. His clinical interests include substance abuse (along with other areas of impulse control), depression, family of origin issues, attachment/intimacy concerns and spirituality. Andy utilizes a client-centered approach combining Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Holistic and Family Systems work. Andy is proud to be a member of Student Counseling Services as well as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and the ISU community as a whole. Outside of ISU his daughters, ages 6 and 8, keep both he and his wife on the go.

Monica joined the counseling center staff in the Fall of 2006. She completed her undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees from Tennessee State University. Monica was trained as a generalist and has many clinical interests including diversity and multiculturalism, spirituality, identity, and issues related to women and the African American population. In addition, she enjoys being involved in group therapy, outreach, training, and supervision. She has an integrative approach to therapy, incorporating aspects of interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, feminist, and multiculturalism. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, and pretending to be an artist.

Nicole joined the SCS in 2005 and participates in a variety of activities including clinical services, outreach and prevention, training, and research. With a background in Adlerian Psychology, Nicole enjoys working with a variety of clients and draws upon interpersonal, family systems, multicultural, and feminist theories. Her clinical interests include: guilt and shame issues, developmental and identity concerns, therapeutic use of creative arts, group therapy, and social justice issues. Outside of SCS, Nicole can usually be found spending time outdoors and hanging out with friends and family.

David first arrived in Normal in 1985 following the famous Beer Riots of the 1984-85 academic year (there was no connection between the two events). He had been running a workplace wellness program for the U.S. General Accounting Office and doing management consulting in Washington, DC for two years before making this move. David has worked in all areas of the SCS during his years here, including coordinating Outreach, helping train the Career paraprofessionals, establishing the annual Minority Student Phon-a-thon, conducting Center research, and working with trainees at the graduate, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels. Currently he is administratively responsible for the Services area of the SCS, including clinical services. While professing to like the headaches of administration, he has enjoyed his many years on the Training Team providing supervision to interns. Clinically, David enjoys working with a range of client presenting concerns, but works particularly well with depressed clients.

Shawn is a recent addition to Student Counseling Services, starting in August 2007. Shawn graduated from Illinois State University in 1997 with a Master in Science in Counselor Education and also has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa. Shawn has a private practice in the Bloomington/Normal community and is an approved provider for various Employee Assistance Programs. Shawn has experience in both Substance Abuse and Community Mental Health and his clinical areas of interest include dual diagnosis and co-morbid disorders. He is the proud father of both a 17 year old and 18 month old (yes, you read that correctly!) and has been happily married to his wife Suzie for almost 7 years. Shawn and Suzie enjoy traveling, movies, dining out, and keeping busy with family.

Jenni joined the ISU staff in the fall of 2006. She completed her masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also worked as a clinical counselor for several years prior to moving to Bloomington-Normal. Her clinical interests include eating disorders and disturbances, body image concerns, exercise, health psychology, first-generation college student needs, and the use of EMDR for the treatment of trauma and test anxiety. Jenni enjoys her involvement in outreach, training and supervision, as well as providing individual, couples, and group counseling. Her theoretical model is integrative and draws upon interpersonal, Gestalt, psychodynamic, and developmental theories. She practices with a feminist philosophy and multicultural framework. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying physically active, and learning more about the Bloomington-Normal community.
Tiffany Tiberi, Psy.D.,

Tiffany joined the staff at ISU in the Fall 2009 after working with students at the University of Iowa and most recently Northwestern University. She enjoys working with a range of client concerns and is interested in working with student-athletes, GLBTQ and other multicultural issues, gender issues, trauma, family of origin concerns, depression and anxiety, as well as eating disorder and body image concerns. Trained as a generalist, her approach to therapy is integrative and she draws upon interpersonal, feminist, psychodynamic, and CBT theories. Tiffany also enjoys her involvement in supervision, training, outreach, and group therapy as well. Outside of ISU, Tiffany enjoys staying physically active, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Though a recent addition to the Student Counseling Service, Gail has been coordinating the Sexual Assault program at Illinois State University since 1999. Her area of interests are relationship and sexual violence, and trauma. Her approach is client-centered, incorporating cognitive-behavioral strategies and feminism. While not working she and her husband enjoy traveling, and adjusting to their “empty nest” now that their 19-year old twins are in college.
Jason Vasquez, Ph.D.

Jason first came to SCS as a pre-doctoral intern in 2008. Prior to the completion of internship, Jason defended his dissertation and met all the requirements for his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from New Mexico State University. He is now a full-time staff psychologist at SCS. Dr. Vasquez is a generalist who utilizes a number of different approaches when working with clients, such as cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, client-centered, choice therapy, family systems, psychosocial, and multicultural frameworks. He has worked with a variety of client concerns, such as diversity and multiculturalism, college adjustment, anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, interpersonal concerns, men’s issues, identity development, and career issues. In addition to individual counseling, he loves co-leading groups and enjoys working with couples. Jason also has training and expertise in the areas of assessment, supervision, and teaching. His research interests mainly involve the relationship between Latino college student adjustment and sociocultural factors (e.g., acculturation, ethnic and racial identity, perceived discrimination) and psychosocial factors (e.g., career development, subjective well-being, life satisfaction). Outside of SCS, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, their two dogs and one cat, reading literature and fiction, biking, watching movies, and traveling.
